Thalian Hall is one of America’s most beautiful theaters. It was built in 1858, a two story brick building with a combination of restrained Classical Revival and flamboyant Late Victorian design elements. Walking into the original lobby is like stepping back in time. The theater is very similar in design to Ford’s Theater in Washington DC. But the theater is no museum, it is full of energy and life, featuring plays, musicals, comedians, concerts and various touring acts and local events. Now the theater is embarking on an ambitious construction projects to expand and update its facilities. Wallaby Film Production has been working with Thalian Hall for more than 3 years, creating event promos, branded content, season release information and capital campaign video support.

Edie’s Story
Volunteers help make Thalian Hall what it is. They run concessions, take tickets, serve as ushers and give tours. It is a program deeply rooted in the history of not only Thalian Hall, but Wilmington itself. It is a way for them to not only give back to their community, but see shows, films and meet people from other walks of life.
To highlight the Volunteer program, Thalian Hall had us produce a video following one of their volunteers: Edie. It was a small documentary short highlighting her story and connection to Thalian Hall to show off the volunteer program as well as encourage new volunteers. It premiered on Volunteer Appreciate Night on the main stage.

Capital Campaign
Thalian Hall Transformation
Thalian Hall has emarked on an ambitious transformation. Their goal is to more than double their square footage and provide additional venues, workshop spaces, updated lobbies, entrance and much more. The fundraising goal to be able to accomplish these ambitious goals is $25 million. To achieve this, Thalian Hall embarked on a massive capital campaign.
Video has been integral to this campaign. It not only launched it but has provided updates, messages from current donors and videos from events such as the reveal of the original restored curtain as well as the groundbreaking ceremony. We are incredibly excited to be a small part of such a massive project that will have a lasting impact on our community for generations to come.

Thalian Hall hosts many performances, films and events every year. This includes both national, regional and local acts.
We have made many videos highlighting different events people can see at the hall and this is one of our favorites from those: the announcement of Cabaret by Opera House Theatre Company at Thalian Hall as part of their New Year’s Eve celebration.

It All Happens Here
Thalian Hall didn’t have any videos assets when Wallaby Film Production came on board. The first project was filming the theater cinematically. The production team spent a day moving through the beautiful space, highlighting the various parts that makes it such a treasure to the Wilmington community. This includes older features as well as new lighting. It was like a cinematic video tour of the space. The second video was live coverage of the Wilmington Theater Awards to show people what the theater looks like during an event.
These two projects produced a ton of beautiful video which was then used in Thalian Hall’s Season Announcement Video, website, played on screens throughout the hall, and various other uses. This is the begining of a partnership between Thalian Hall and Wallaby and there are plans for additional content in the future, such as additional shoots for new content to show off this building and the performances there, as well as mini documentaries on this unique and gorgeous theater’s fascinating history.
